Hurricane Helene 2024 Update 4

News from Richard and Jan Ritter’s family. All safe. Sarah, their daughter, has posted a sign that offers help to all in town.

Hey y’all, we’re okay! No cell service, WiFi, or power but we have a generator and gravity-fed spring water. Damage is really bad but we’re taking care of each other and thankfully no trees hit the house. We can get to TN now to restock on supplies and send updates so that is a blessing. We are still somewhat unaware of the extent of the damage, but I know this hit everyone… you are all in our hearts and our prayers. As Mr. Roger’s said, “look for the helpers.” A whole crew of them showed up at our house today (from all over the US) to help us chop up fallen trees and haul off debris. And neighbors with excavators and kind words to share have made all the difference. We’re really grateful. As bad as it is, we are so fortunate to still be here and to know our families are safe.
